run for life

As an avid runner I have always been intrigued by the unique relationship runners have with the sport.
A runner does not lace up one's shoes every day simply to stay in shape, but rather for much deeper and more beautiful reasons.

For my senior thesis, I set out to capture the unique stories of runners across the Twin Cities and retell them through photographs. I had my subjects paint their reason for running on their arms to mimic the way runners often write the names of loved ones on their legs during races.
Each photograph, which is printed on a large sheet of fabric, also includes a brief story explaining the meaning of the words on their arms.
